The project was my bachelor's thesis, where I tried for the first time to reflect in real life the thoughts and reflections on the invalidation of theater, which is an aspect of my interest as an author and largely defines my other outputs. For the term invalidity I take the inspiration from the medical terminology, where it indicates the condition and circumstances in which a person becomes unable to perform certain activities. Translating into creative discourse, my intention is to introduce the means by which I sabotage the possibility of fully developing the immanent potential of things, actions, situations and phenomena that interest me. I consciously create obstacles and make it impossible or reflect something that makes it impossible and creates obstacles, in order to dive deeper into the mechanism of things and phenomena through the optics of the other end of spectrum of their possible perception. It is my way of "innervation", sharpening sensitivity, tilting the dynamics of reflecting on reality.
The core of the thoughts about the implementation of the project was the will to find a space that would be a "theater" stage in itself and simply appropriate it to my needs. I discovered it in one of the model apartment in the IKEA department store, representing a living space with an area of 55 m2. I did not need any extras to create the illusion of staged situations, its role was unknowingly taken over by shoppers and staff. The most significant director's input was the engagement of professional actor Róbert Roth and actress Veronika Pavelková. My intention was not to significantly instruct the actor, I wanted to let his aura do the job, but I still expressed my desire for him to interpret freely the theatrical performance Hollyroth, in which he paraphrases the life of writer, translator and Catholic priest John Holly (1785-1849), a prominent figure in Slovak history. However, everything remained in a setting that did not give the average witness an idea that it was a dramatization of appropriated reality. The performers and the audience were only part of the existing situation, which I approached as "found footage", or social ready-made, which I then only gently and unobtrusively moved in the desired direction. Every single aspect, moment, condition that shaped the situation that could and would have referred to theater and everyday life, I wanted to invalidate.
The evaluation committee from the university arrived at the IKEA department store to the particular announced model apartment. Pavelková, as Roth's situation partner, employed the attention of an unsuspecting IKEA sales person with whom she consulted questions about goods, while Roth rehearsed a play with a fictional actor on the phone because he missed a fictional rehearsal. A small child was hanging out in the apartment. Nobody understood much. Robert Roth finished the scene after saying his lines.
